UK Travel Writer Visits

PARKERSBURG, WV – The Greater Parkersburg Convention & Visitors Bureau recently hosted UK travel writer, Mary Moore Mason, of Essentially America Magazine, for a tour of area points of interests.

Essentially America is published three times a year and is the UK’s leading consumer magazine dedicated to travel and lifestyle in the USA and Canada.  It is sold via subscription and on newsstands throughout the UK and is also distributed on a controlled basis to international travelers. Essentially America has a distribution of 50,000 and a readership of 110,000.

“Obviously with the US dollar being weaker against the English pound it makes travel to the US much more attractive to visitors from across the pond in the UK. And we are glad to have the opportunity to expose Greater Parkersburg to a different audience,” Steve Nicely, GPCVB president said.

The visit to West Virginia for Moore was arranged by Betty Cutlip of the West Virginia Division of Tourism who requested the assistance of the CVB in making the local arrangements.

Moore requested tours of Fenton Art Glass, Holl’s Swiss Chocolatier, Blennerhassett Museum, Oil & Gas Museum, Julia-Ann Square Historic District, and the Blennerhassett Hotel. Her story, focusing on West Virginia, will be featured in Essentially America’s fall issue.
